Have you been wanting to learn how to film your own Art videos but it all just seems overwhelming?

Well, I totally get it! I first started making my own art tutorials three years ago at my dining room table with pvc pipes, a Go Pro Camera and no professional lighting! I somehow managed, but I quickly realized that if I wanted to create professional, polished videos I had to figure out a better way!

Through extensive research, a whole lot of trial and error and much hard work, I have found  a system that delivers solid video content for my students.

It's not just the equipment either! It's about how to communicate that is key - how to convey relative information without boring your audience and how to share your authentic self with your viewers.

I'm so excited to lead you through this course as we explore not only the logistics of how to make an art video but how to get the best YOU across to your audience.

I hope you will join me and my husband, Chris as we share our insights, expertise and training on the making of an ART video!

xo,

Ivy

Here's a description of what this class will cover

into the myst

Concept & planning

You know you've got a great idea and you really want to capture it on film BUT first you need to plan out just how you going to move through the project. What materials do you need, what is the goal of the project or lesson? Concepting and planning is KEY when teaching on video. You don't want to be fumbling around looking for that one brush or that special pencil. Plus you want to convey organization, thought and intention to your viewer.  I'll be showing you how just that!

We will discuss:

  • going from concept to action
  • planning your message and materials
  • testing
  • class/lesson concepts and syllabus writing
  • identifying your process
  • establishing professionalism and expertise

EQUIPMENT & SET UP

If you want quality results, you want quality equipment. You don't need to get crazy but it's important to realize that a good camera and some decent lighting goes a looooong way in the art video department. After all you are sharing color and creativity. You don't want dark shadows, yellowish light or anything that detracts from your art projects! Plus you want your "stage" to be beautiful. ( No dead plants in the corner or trash on the floor please! ) Beauty is everything on film! You are expressing in a visual form so eye candy only adds to your viewers experience.

This part of the class will cover:

  • Using a Video Camera & iPhone
  • Lighting set up
  • Camera set up
  • Sound
  • Recording format
  • Filming from above
  • Filming an introduction
  • Filming at the easel

COMMUNICATION & TEACHING

Lights Camera Art - Ivy Newport

Ok now you are all set up and ready to go. You have your idea, your tools and you are anxious to get going but wait...do you know what you are going to say? Effective communication is vital when teaching. Knowing how much or how little to explain and share is important. No one wants to hear you prattle on about your recent grocery shopping experience, they are here to LEARN from you. So while sharing relevant stories is a great way to connect with our audience, we have to make sure we know when to stay quiet. I will help you find those core teaching messages to share and how to share them.

I'll guide you through :

  • do's and don't's when teaching
  • how to connect to your viewer
  • using correct terminology
  • expressing your authentic personality on film
  • pushing past the nerves
  • how to become more comfortable on camera
  • being professional

EDITING & PROCESSING

Chris will be showing you step-by-step how to import your footage onto your computer and into the editing software (Camtasia). You will learn how to use this simple but effective program, including how to create smooth transitions, clipping out errors, adding voiceovers, text, music, and more! Plus we will be showing you how to export and upload your videos with all the right settings. I will share the pros and cons to different ways of editing and formatting your video.

This part of the class will cover:
